Alison Kay
(b. Dublin 1953)
Working in clay for over 35 years Alison Kay produces unique pieces combining a geometry of patterns that are influenced by nature and her interest in gardening and plants. She develops her ideas through an organic process, making subtle changes to her material and using Terra Sigillata (a very fine clay) to achieve the highly polished surface.
Alison Kay has exhibited her work nationally and internationally. Her recent exhibitions include a solo show at the Mill Cove gallery, Castletownbere, Organic Geometry at the National Craft Gallery, Kilkenny, The Royal Hibernian Academy annual exhibition and Designers and Makers at the F.E.McWilliam Gallery, Co. Down. She won the Hallward ceramic award in 2008 and the Etaine Hickey award for surface finish in 2009.
