Eileen McDonagh
(b. Sligo, 1956)
Eileen McDonagh is a sculptor. For the most part she has worked in stone where clean lines, purity of form and well-finished surfaces of her sculptures have a certain austerity and belong within a classical-modernist tradition. On the other hand her bulging shapes, such as in her Icosahedron Series exude a sensuality and unexpected playfulness.
Eileen McDonagh has participated in Symposia all over the world including Japan, India, Austria, Germany, Italy, Sweden, and Luxembourg. Since her first commission for Dublin Castle in 1989 she has completed over sixteen commissions around Ireland. She has had several solo exhibitions including an exhibition of stonework at Centre Culturel des Irelandais in Paris in 2008. In 2004 she was elected to Aosdana.
